We had an incredible stay at Distant Relatives! the staff were friendly and welcoming, and they even greeted us by name. the atmosphere was casual and relaxed, creating a perfect vibe. the common rooms were nicely decorated and created a friendly space for socializing. the food and drinks were delicious, and we even preordered our dinner before arriving. the highlight was definitely swimming in the nearby beach where we got to witness the magical bioluminescent plankton. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. Cons: Can honestly say there wasn't anything not to like! 😊.

The hostel boasts jaw-dropping grounds and gardens that provide a beautiful backdrop for chilling all day long. The pool, delicious food, and serene surroundings make you forget you're in a hostel. Plus, its close proximity to the creek offers easier and more enjoyable swimming options than the open ocean.

I had the most amazing stay at this eco-friendly lodge in Kilifi. The self-contained banda I stayed in was absolutely incredible, especially the beautiful outdoor shower. The entire property was clean and well-maintained, and I loved the bamboo forest shower. The kitchen was huge and well-equipped, and the common area and pool had a great vibe. The sunset dhow cruise and lunch at Nautilus were unforgettable experiences. And let's not forget about the mesmerizing bioluminescent plankton at the river! I highly recommend this place for an authentic and enjoyable stay.

We were initially worried about finding Distant Relatives Ecolodge & Backpackers, but the signs were easy to follow once we found the matatu stage. The remote location turned out to be a hidden oasis of joy. The staff made us feel at home and the affordable food, especially the King prawns and Dahl rice, were delicious. Our comfortable banda near the volleyball court had a pleasant surprise outside shower. The concept of compost toilets took some getting used to, but it was a great water-saving idea. The live performance at pizza night was a delightful surprise. Despite the slightly tricky walk to the beach, the glowing bioluminescent plankton made it all worthwhile. A sunset sail on a traditional dhow was an unforgettable experience, although it got a little too quiet at times and we wished we had brought some music to enjoy. Lastly, the friendly and well-behaved dog, Mowgly, was a great welcoming touch.

I recently stayed at Distant Relatives and had an amazing time. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, even remembering my name. They went above and beyond, offering to take my dinner order when I arrived late due to a flight delay. The property was always clean and had a relaxed atmosphere. The compost toilets and outdoor shower nestled among the bamboo were unique and well-designed. I also appreciated the hotel's eco-friendly initiatives and educational reminders. Seeing the bioluminescence at night was truly magical. The rooms were spacious and clean, with large beds and mosquito nets without any holes. The swimming pool was great and there were plenty of places to chill on the property. The nearby creek was only a short 5-minute walk away and the staff always had piki piki available to take me to town.
I do recommend this hotel.
